Beaches
Playa Principal
The town beach, at the bottom of the street, 200 m from the hotel. The waterfront behind it has music on Friday and Saturday nights.
Playa La Madera
The next beach along, six minutes away on the waterfront path. An easy walk for the morning, before the heat.
Playa La Ropa
The long beach of the bay, 1.5 km from the hotel. Walk there in 20 minutes and take a taxi back for about 40 pesos if the afternoon is hot.
Playa Las Gatas
Reached by boat from the pier, four blocks from the hotel. The ride takes about ten minutes.
The market and cooking at home
The municipal market is a minute from the door. Go in the morning for fruit, fish and fresh tortillas. Every apartment at Hotel Valle has a full kitchen, so on a long stay you can cook breakfast and dinner at home and eat out when you feel like it.
Cafés, and working from a café
There is no coworking space in town; people who work online use cafés. The ones visitors name most are El Viverito (a café with a pool), La Terricita (two locations), Loot (a surf shop with a café and a rooftop) and Café Marina on Paseo del Pescador. Café Wi-Fi around Centro is usually about 20 Mbps. From June to October storms can cut power and internet for hours, so keep a mobile data plan as a backup.
Meeting people
Zihuatanejo has a winter community of Canadians and Americans, many of whom stay several months. Groups that meet in person include the Zihuatanejo English Club, the Zihua Women's Circle, a book club and the Zihua Writers Group. Online, the Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa message board has more than 62,000 posts, and the Facebook groups "Ixtapa - Zihuatanejo - Let's Chat" and "Expats Ixtapa Zihuatanejo" are where people ask practical questions about day-to-day life.
Ixtapa for a day
Ixtapa, the resort town next door, is a combi ride away. The shared vans stop a few blocks from the hotel. Go for a change of scene and come back to Centro for dinner.
Everyday errands
- Laundry: Lavandería del Centro is on the same street, at Vicente Guerrero 34, and Lavamatic is also downtown.
- Mail and parcels: reception takes packages for guests. Use the hotel address with your name and apartment code.
- Evenings at home: the building has a roof garden. There is no pool.
When to come
November to April is the foreign season, with the winter community in town. May to October is hot and humid, reaching 36 °C in July, and you will see far fewer foreigners. Holy Week and the Mexican summer holidays fill the beaches with families; in Holy Week 2026 the beaches went from 8,000 to 24,000 people a day.
