Getting to Zihuatanejo: direct flights for winter 2026-27 and the ride to Centro

Zihuatanejo's airport (ZIH) is 14 km from Centro, about 25 minutes by taxi. For winter 2026-27 there are direct flights from Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal, and from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Phoenix, Houston, Chicago and Minneapolis. WestJet's Calgary flight starts on 26 October 2026 and Air Canada's Vancouver flight on 29 October 2026.

Routes and start dates were read from airline and airport sources in September 2026. Weekly frequencies were not published consistently at the time, so confirm the days with the airline before you plan your arrival. Calgary is the busiest Canadian route: 12,732 passengers in 2025, second only to Los Angeles among international routes.

Airlines that no longer fly here

• Sunwing Airlines stopped flying on 28 May 2025, when it was folded into WestJet. Sunwing Vacations still sells Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo packages, now on WestJet flights.
• Air Transat does not appear on the airport's list of airlines.

Connecting through Mexico

If there is no direct flight from your city, connect in Mexico City, where Aeroméxico, Volaris, Viva and Mexicana fly to ZIH, or in Guadalajara, Querétaro or Tijuana with Volaris.

When to book

The foreign season runs from November to April. Canadians plan early: Sunwing Vacations opened its early-booking offer in June 2026 for travel from November 2026 to April 2027, and Air Canada already sells fares to August 2027. Long-stay apartments in town are the harder part. Visitors on the forums say decent monthly rentals in high season are hard to find and there is no local listing site, so book your apartment when you book your flight.

From the airport to Centro

Take a taxi from the airport: 14 km, about 25 minutes. Confirm the fare before you leave. Have this written on your phone to show the driver:

Hotel Valle, Vicente Guerrero 33, junto al mercado

"Junto al mercado" means "next to the market". The municipal market is the landmark, and the hotel is a minute's walk from it. Bring some pesos for the taxi and your first run to the market.

Getting around once you are here

• On foot: Playa Principal is 200 m from the hotel and Playa La Madera a six-minute walk along the waterfront path.
• Taxi: Playa La Ropa is 1.5 km away, about 40 pesos.
• Boat: the boat to Playa Las Gatas leaves from the pier, four blocks from the hotel, and takes about ten minutes.
• Combi: shared vans to Ixtapa stop a few blocks from the hotel.

You will not need a car for a stay in Centro. If you drive, tell us before you arrive: street parking downtown is limited and we will point you to the nearest lot.
